152 153 The Ruler e’er are praising, Who in His mighty hands With pow’r that ever lasteth All things preserveth still, Uplifteth and down casteth As it may please Him well. 8) For this my heart is yearning, ‘Tis there I fain would go; I’m weary of my journ’ying Throughout this world below. The longer here I’m staying, The less of joy I taste, My spirit’s thirst allaying; ‘Tis most but stench and waste. 9) The lodging is too wicked, The trouble is too great. Oh, come to Thine afflicted, Release me from this state. Come, make a blessed ending Of all my wandering, Thine arm and strength defending From evr’ry noisome thing. 10) Where I till now remainèd, ‘Tis not myproper home; When I the goal have gainèd, Then forth therefrom I’ll come, And what I here have needed, I’ll put it all away, And when my last I’ve breathèd, Me in the grave they’ll lay. 11) But Thou, my Joy and Gladness, O Thou, my Life and Light, Wilt raise me from this sadness, Before Thy count’nance bright, To everlasting mansions, Midst endless joys divine, Where, with my blest companions, I like the sun shall shine. 12) There shall I dwell forever, No more a guest alone, With those who, crowned with favor, Rejoice before Thy throne; There will I sing in glory Thy deeds forever blest, And, freed from ills, adore Thee, Thy heritage my rest.
